Mitchel + Erin

In Canon 5DMKII, Canon EF 35mm f1.4 L, E-Shoot on 09/29/2009 at 11:29 am

So yesterday, i had a chance to shoot Mitchel + Erin! oh boy, we had so much fun! they are such a cute couple, and they are to die for! here are some highlights from yesterday.

The weather has turned crummy within the day. So I still have a couple more people to shoot, i just dont know when i am going to get around to it. I hope to catch the fall colors this year!

Scouting! How important!

In Uncategorized on 09/24/2009 at 1:46 pm

Hey guys!

In order to bring fresh and creative photos, i definitely have to continuously scout for new locations! So here’s a doorway found in my new location for the upcoming shoot on sunday, Sept 27 2009! I have another shoot the following thursday, Oct 2nd i believe. That one will be shot in yaletown with a male model.

See ya later! And the door, it was a quick scouting photo, nothing special – just wanted to show you what goes behind the scenes when photographers do what they do.

Good Bye Canon EOS 40D!

In Uncategorized on 09/22/2009 at 9:19 am

Today, I sold my Canon EOS 40D.

Why did i let it go?
-I didnt like that i had an inconsistency in focal length (one was a FF camera, and the other was 1.6x – so my 35mm would be zoomed to 56mm on the 40D)
-I realized that 10mp doesnt cut it for me anymore as i do tend to crop a lot at times.
-I’d rather have another lens to accompany my 5dmkii such as the 135mm f2L. Ill be patient to wait for a used copy to come into the market.
-My girlfriend was right, why do i need a second camera? And if i were to get a second camera, i’d definitely require a dual r-strap (pictured below). I’d require a 35L on a 5dmkii and a 85mm on another 5dmkii.

So whats the plan now?
– Save it until a used 135mm comes into the CL posting

-I’m selling my EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS for 2000 CAD. 2.8 Doesnt cut it anymore. I am after the 85mm f1.2 now.

Debut – Sept 19 2009

In Uncategorized on 09/21/2009 at 5:38 am

I was able to shoot a couple of frames at a debut yesterday…

What’s a debut?

“A débutante (from the French débutante, “female beginner”) is a young lady from an aristocratic or upper class family who has reached the age of maturity, and as a new adult, is introduced to society at a formal presentation known as her “début”.” – Wikipedia, 2009

So here are the highlights. I haven’t edited it all, but here’s a few so far.

The 35L is an amazing event lens! it has great perspective and the 1.4 DOF definitely helps with low light! The only problem with the 35L is that i have to be quite close to my subjects and it’s sometimes a nuisance, but i have to muster enough confidence to approach my subjects, say hi and ask them to look over here and pose. This lens is going to go through another test, portraiture setting in a bout a week or two. But so far, it’s definitely passing my tests.

I realized that it’s definitely time to let go of the 70-200mm f2.8 L IS. It’s a beautiful lens but i realized that it’s just not sharp enough for the 5dmkii. It’s time to revamp all of my gear again.

It’s time for a quick plan…

Sell 40D
Sell 70-200mm f2.8 IS
Purchase USED 135mm F2.0L
Purchase USED 85mm f1.2L

So the gear will consist of… 5dmkii, 35L, 85L, 135L.

It’s all about Goals!

In Uncategorized on 09/19/2009 at 1:51 am

I’ve always been a determined person with goals and intentions and when it comes to this blog, its no exception.

So it’s time to lay down some goals.
-web-designed ads for craigslist posting
-25 weddings to be posted by the end of next year (i was able to land 10 this year)
-Business cards made by a local shop by the end of next year

Bought a 35 f1.4L!

In Canon EF 35mm f1.4 L on 09/12/2009 at 1:16 pm

The original plan was to sell off my Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS for 1050, and Sell my Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for 650, giving me a total of 1700 dollars to pay for a Canon EF 35mm f1.4 L lens which costs 1646 (with taxes). but Today, i was able to go downtown and purchase a used lens for $1000 – which ultimately saved me 700 dollars.

So after picking it up, right away, i started playing with the lens as i had my 5dmkii with me at the moment.

This lens is incredibly sharp, and the lens requires serious expertise to get the photo sharp. I am definitely still learning and this is one of many steps towards become a wedding / event photographer.

So here are the photos, and i hope you enjoy them.

Moving on…

In Canon EF 35mm f1.4 L on 09/09/2009 at 12:25 pm

Moving on? What are you moving on from?

Today, I’m making the change from zoom lenses to prime lenses. For those who don’t know, zoom lenses allow you to zoom without moving your feet, whereas prime lenses require you to zoom with your feet.

Wait… So why would you want that?

The main advantage of prime lenses is that they are sharper that their zoom brothers, and they give you a more dreamy and blurred out background. So what’s not to like? Versatility? Meh… I dont mind.

So 5D mk ii… Meet your new brother… the 35mm f1.4L
